OpenTable, Resy, Yelp or ring2order?
An honest look at four ways to take reservations, for busy independent restaurants. ring2order costs less and answers your phone, taking orders as well as bookings. The others bring in new diners through their apps. Prices checked November 5, 2026.
The short answer
- Choose OpenTable or Resy if most of your new guests find you through those apps, or you sell ticketed events and need deposits.
- Choose Yelp if Yelp is where your diners look for you, and you want reservations, a waitlist and phone answering from one company.
- Choose ring2order if your guests already know you and call you, and you want the phone answered and bookings and orders taken for a low monthly price with no cover fees.

Why restaurants look for an OpenTable alternative
-
Cover fees add up
Paying for each guest booked through a network means a full Saturday costs more than a quiet Tuesday. With ring2order, a booking costs the same whether you seat 50 guests a month or 500.
-
The phone still rings
Many guests still call to book, to ask about tonight, or to order takeout. A booking app doesn't answer those calls. ring2order does, and takes the order or the booking itself.
-
Your regulars already know you
If most of your guests are locals and regulars, you may be paying for a diner network you don't need. A booking link on your own website and a phone that always answers may be enough.
What a month could cost
An example only: a restaurant taking 200 bookings a month by phone, at about 2 minutes per call. Bookings made on your website don't use minutes.
ring2order Reservations only, example month
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Reservations only plan, including 100 assistant minutes | $55.00 |
| 300 extra assistant minutes at $0.20 | $60.00 |
| Total before tax | $115.00 |
500 phone calls a month: ring2order vs Yelp Host
| 500 calls, about 2 minutes each | ring2order | Yelp Host Basic |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly plan | Busy restaurant, 1000 minutes: $165.00 | 500 calls: $249.00 |
| Callers in Spanish and other languages | Included | Spanish +$99.00 |
| Reservations and waitlist | +$20.00 add-on | Guest Manager, a separate plan from $129.00 |
| Phone answering, before tax | $165.00 | $249.00 |
Yelp's call allowance is from Yelp's own article (November 2026); its pricing page says Basic is "subject to call limits and additional fees may apply". Unused ring2order minutes roll over while your account is current. Busier restaurants pay $0.15 a minute with the Busy restaurant and Rush hour packs. See pricing for every plan.
Who each one fits best
-
ring2order
Busy independent restaurants where the phone rings more than staff can answer. You want calls answered, bookings and takeout orders taken, and a waitlist at the door, without cover fees or a long sign-up process.
-
OpenTable
Restaurants that get many new guests through the OpenTable app and want its large diner network, guest profiles and deposits, and are happy to pay per network cover.
-
Resy
Restaurants in busy dining cities where diners book on Resy, and places selling ticketed experiences or prepaid tables through Tock.
-
Yelp
Restaurants whose diners find them on Yelp, who want reservations, a waitlist and AI phone answering from one company with POS integration.
Switching to ring2order
- Sign up and set it up yourself for free, step by step: your booking hours, rooms, tables and any questions you ask each party.
- Forward your calls: every call, or only the ones your team can't answer. You keep your number and your phone provider.
- Put your booking link on your website, in place of your old booking button.
- Prefer help? Our done-for-you setup is a one-time $149: we load your settings, help with call forwarding and run a test call with you.
You can keep your old booking app while you try ring2order. The two don't share bookings, so add your upcoming bookings to ring2order (or block those tables) before you switch your booking link.
Questions
Is ring2order a full replacement for OpenTable?
For bookings by phone and from your website, a walk-in waitlist and running the floor, yes. It doesn't have a diner app that sends you new guests, deposits or POS integration. If those matter most to you, OpenTable, Resy or Yelp may fit better.
Does ring2order charge per cover?
No. You pay a monthly plan and the assistant minutes your phone calls use. Bookings made on your booking page or at the kiosk don't use minutes.
Can guests still book online?
Yes. Every restaurant gets its own booking link to put on its website, and guests get a private link to change or cancel their booking.
What happens with large groups?
You choose. Book them like anyone else and join tables together, take their details as a request that staff confirm, or ask them to call you.
How does ring2order compare with Yelp Host?
Both answer your restaurant's phone with AI and take bookings and orders. Yelp Host is $249 a month for 500 calls or $399 for unlimited calls, Spanish is $99 a month extra, and it can send orders to your POS with a text payment link. ring2order starts at $35 a month for phone ordering or $55 for reservations, with other languages included. 500 calls of about 2 minutes fit in the Busy restaurant plan at $165 a month. It doesn't take payment on the call: guests pay when they pick up.
